My New Year's Resolution:  100 words a day

'Cause sometimes, that's how my life rolls.  And on days when I can write more, awesome.  This goal has been incredibly good for me in the first few days of the year.  There have already been days where I couldn't begin to write anything before 11 pm, and need to be up at 6 all bright eyed and bushy tailed for another first grade day.  But even after a loooong day, I can type 100 words before crashing.  It's only a few sentences, really.  The best news?  Even on the nights where I've gotten a super late start, my 100 word minimum has turned into 300 or 400.  Just giving myself the freedom to say - You know what?  I can write something today.  100 words is ok.  - has prompted me to write even on those days when I would normally not even think about getting into it at 11pm.

And a super extra added bonus?  Rebecca T. of Sonshine Thoughts is joining me in my 100 words a day resolution, and she made this shiny happy button to put on our blogs and keep us going!

Rebecca is awesomable for several reasons, not the least of which being that she can totally quote the movie Clue and didn't think I was a complete crazy person when I sent her a Goth NaNo Cheerleader Barbie.  (Shut up, yes I did).  Anyway, she and I would like to welcome anyone who would like to make your own 100 Words a Day in 2011 resolution to feel free to post the button on your blog as well.

And now, as the night is young at 9:06 and I only have about half an hour of spelling assessment scoring to do... I may get to do some research and write tonight!  Woooohooooo!

Awww... *blushes*

I love this idea for so many reasons. Like you said, 100 words seems so... doable! I've been writing background stuff, working out plot holes, filling in my characters' backstories and such, but I've probably written about 1,000 words in the last two days because I told myself - it's only 100, I can do that!

So kudos and thank you and woohoo!

100 words, not bad! Now, the next challenge is to do the 100 word STORY. Harder than it looks, I promise. As far as my writing goes, I am doing it already with 100+ words so you have my support and I will post the badge of honor on my blog as well.

Here's to another full year of writing!

That's a great way to stay motivated and keep the story fresh, especially when you're a very busy person.

I do something similar, only instead of word count, I do fifteen minutes every day. (Of course, it often turns into more time. But even on days when it doesn't, the story and characters stay fresh in my mind.)

that sounds awesome and normally i'd be all over it, but i learned that i don't do well with long term "daily" word count goals unless i'm allowed to stock up earlier in the week (like NaNo)
I will be cheering you ladies on, though! With pompoms!

I love hearing that I am not the only one who has short-term, simple goals. I thought people would be rolling their eyes at me for the tiny size of my daily word count, but I have to be realistic with myself in order to keep going and not get overwhelmed with goals that set myself up for failure. I can write 5,000 words in a day... if I have off from work and the kids are not home and hubby is occupied, lol, but that day is a rare commodity. ;) It's working and it's very nice to hear that others have similar ways to keep themselves going in smaller, manageable chunks! Thanks for sharing!

Love this goal! I'm doing it, too. Thanks for the good example, Lindsey.

The button's on my blog, now for the writing! Thanks for the motivation!

I have to admit, I use my hubby's presence as an excuse a lot, but even I can write 100 words while his back is turned!

Happy writing, everyone!

Good luck!! I am like Sarah and am not good at daily goals. Some days I just need to do nothing. It keeps me sane. I'm sure you and Rebecca will conquer this challenge!

That's such a doable goal. It's better than coming up empty by the end of the day.

I'm doing pretty good writing regularly this year. I hope to keep it up.

This is a fantastic idea. Rebecca told me about it and I was like: "Squee! I wanted to do a paragraph a day so this is like the same thing and now other people will be doing it with me" and I was all very excited.

Have fun with your 100 words a day! :D

I know some folks can write for hours when their friendly muse pays them a visit, but not so with me. Slow and consistent works for me.

I love the 100 words a day commitment! Can we, um, shoot for that as an average? :)
